Based in Irvine, Calif., Edison Mission Group (EMG) manages the competitive power generation business and other unregulated subsidiaries of Edison International. Under the EMG umbrella, Edison Mission Energy (EME) is an independent power producer engaged in the business of owning, leasing, operating and selling energy and capacity from electric power generation facilities. EMG’s continuing operations consist of owned or leased interests in 44 power generation facilities, with an aggregate capacity of 11,413 megawatts (MW), of which EMG's ownership share is 10,214 megawatts (MW).
This portfolio includes fossil-fuel power plants in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia and Doga, Turkey; a biomass facility in New York, and one of the largest portfolios of wind energy projects in the U.S., with more than 25 projects currently in operation or under construction in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Based in Chicago, EME company Midwest Generation operates six electric power generating plants in Illinois and supervises operation of the EME Homer City Generation plant in Homer City, Pennsylvania. The Midwest Generation and Homer City plants are called merchant plants because power produced by these stations is sold in competitive wholesale markets. Most of these plants' output is sold into what is known as the PJM marketplace (Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland), a 13-state region which extends from the Atlantic coast westward to Illinois.
